JAKARTA: North Jakarta Police announced that they have busted 46 gambling cases this month and arrested 65 people allegedly involved in the cases.
Most of the busts took place in areas in Koja, Kelapa Gading, Tanjung Priok, Cilincing, and Pademangan.
"*Gamblers* now also operate through text message to contact the gambling operators," North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Rudy Sufahriadi was quoted as saying Thursday by news portal detik.com.
He added that operators of gambling rings ran very mobile operations and frequently changed locations.
"The lottery operators target low-income gamblers who are easily persuaded to win big through gambling," he said.
North Jakarta Police says it confiscated Rp 13.5 million (US$1,420) in cash, 143 lottery coupon bundles, 3 interpretation books and 21 cell phones in the bust.
"I call on all gambling operators out there to stop their activities because the police will take severe measures against illegal gambling," Rudy said. - JP
