JAKARTA: The Bantar Gebang landfill in Bekasi, West Java, will get two new methane-fired power plants in April to add to the existing two, an official said Friday.
"We plan to produce 4 megawatts *MW* of electricity during the launch of the new plants in May," said city sanitary agency head Eko Bharuna.
He added the landfill operator was currently trying to produce a stable supply of methane gas during the rainy season to produce 2 MW of electricity.
The newly built waste-management facility is expected to produce 26 MW in 2012, with private-partner investment of Rp 700 billion (US$76.8 million). -JP
