Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said Monday she would evaluate the ministry’s inspectorate general following a Rp 25 billion tax evasion case involving a tax official.
“We hope the evaluation will allow the inspectorate general, along with the internal compliance division, to be able to detect violations much earlier than they do now,” Mulyani said as quoted by kompas.com.
She added her ministry had also accelerated the implementation of the official tax appraisal, including by creating a more comprehensive integrity indicator.
“We also set up a credible desk to handle whistleblowers and complaints seriously,” she said.
Mulyani also asked for help from the Financial Transactions Reports and Analysis Center to trace transactions by tax officials, taxpayers, and judges related to any tax disputes.
