Imogen arrives, thanks to Indonesians tweeting

British Grammy award-winner techno-pop singer Imogen Heap said Tuesday that messages sent to her account on the micro-blogging site Twitter from her Indonesian fan base was one reason she included Jakarta in her world tour.

“If it wasn’t for Twitter, I may have not heard the enthusiastic messages from Indonesians,” she said at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Kuningan.

The eccentrically dressed musician will perform Wednesday night at Balai Kartini, South Jakarta, as part of her world tour after releasing album Ellipse last year.

Ellipse, with singles such as “First Train Home” and “2-1”, won best engineered album, non-classical, at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

Heap said that currently album sales did not reflect the popularity of an artist.

“It is difficult for us to gauge how well we are doing.

“We have to rely on social networking sites such as Myspace, Twitter or Youtube to see where people are watching the footage,” she said.
