Regency officials' boat runs aground

JAKARTA: Thousand Islands Deputy Regent Natsir Sabara and his entourage ran aground on Big Opak Island on Tuesday due to bad weather.
The group had intended to monitor the running of the national examinations on Harapan Island but were forced onto Big Opak instead.
"When we wanted to see the implementation of the national exams at Harapan Island junior high when we were suddenly hit by heavy rain and strong winds, so we decided to head to the nearest island," Purwoto, the head of the Thousand Islands communication and information office, was quoted as saying Tuesday by news portal beritajakarta.com.
He added that 398 students would be sitting the exams at seven junior high and one Islamic school in the Thousand Islands.
"We prepared dormitories for students from islands not running national exams so that everything runs smoothly," he said. - JP
