Exam cheaters force retake for 593 students

MEDAN: Some 593 students from a local state high school were forced to retake their national exams Monday because two of their classmates were caught with cheat sheets on exam day last month.

The exam retake involved science and social studies majors from SMA 2 Medan and SMA Teladan Indrapura in Batubara regency.The sociology majors retook their biology and Indonesian exams, and the social studies students retook their sociology and Indonesian exams.

The new exam papers had been under lock and key the night before at the local police station to prevent a repeat of last month's incident that saw two students arrested by police after they were caught with answer sheets, according to Anang Wibowo, who chairs the national examination committee. - JP
