Tangerang to build new bus terminal

TANGERANG: The Tangerang Transportation Agency confirmed Wednesday it would stick to a plan to build a bus terminal at the Puri Beta housing complex in Larangan district, despite protests from residents of the complex.

"We'll start building the terminal next year, given that the administration prepared the plan a long time before the housing complex was built," agency head Erlan Rusnarlan said.

On Saturday, dozens of residents rallied to show protest the plan, saying the terminal would trigger air pollution, traffic congestion and more crime.

Erlan said the new terminal would help reduce traffic congestion between Ciledug and Jakarta.

"With a new terminal here, there should be no more public minibuses and minivans stopping to pick up and drop off passengers at random along the road," he said. - JP
