tate seaport operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) II, in cooperation with state housing developer PT Pembangunan Perumahan (PP), will begin the construction of a new port in Kalibaru, North, Jakarta, in the third quarter.
The port and all necessary supporting infrastructure will require Rp 1.2 trillion (US$133 million)
in investment, and its construction is expected to conclude next year.
“We are still discussing stake ownership, however Pelindo II will own the majority of the stake, probably more than 50 percent,” Pelindo II president director R.J Lino said in Jakarta on
Friday.
PT PP president director Musyanif said that it would only take 20 percent of the total stake
ownership in the joint venture, saying it still had many investment plans in other infrastructure sectors such as toll roads and power plants.
“In this joint venture, PT PP will assist by fund raising and providing a development plan,” Musyanif said.
He said the project would be financed by state banks such as Bank Mandiri, Bank BRI and
Bank BNI.
“Those banks are interested in providing financial support for the project. We are still negotiating,” Musyanif added.
Besides forming the joint venture with PT PP, Pelindo II also has several business agreements with state toll operator PT Jasa Marga in providing toll road access at Tanjung Priok Jakarta port.
“The toll road will provide easy access to the port,” Lino said.
Pelindo II, the biggest port operator in the country, manages 12 seaports, such as Tanjung Priok and Sunda Kelapa in Jakarta and Bojonegara in Banten and Teluk Bayur in West Sumatra.
The company is targeting to gain Rp 3.3 trillion in revenue this year, an increase from Rp 2.7 trillion in unaudited revenue in 2009.
Pelindo II has also been assigned by the government to take over the management of land excavation company PT Pengerukan Indonesia in a bid to create better synergy with the company, as well as part of the government’s plan to hold a port holding company in Indonesia.
Currently Indonesia has four port operators; Pelindo I in Medan, North Sumatra, Pelindo II in Jakarta, Pelindo III in Surabaya, East Java and Pelindo IV in Makasar, South Sulawesi.
