Bandung `needs more biopores'

BANDUNG: Deputy Mayor Ayi Vivananda says Bandung still lacks sufficient biopores to serve as a water catchment for the city.

"The city of Bandung currently has only 1.5 million biopores, but that's still far from enough," Ayi said Saturday. "More biopores means more water can be absorbed by the soil so that Bandung will not suffer during droughts or rains."

Bandung and surrounding areas were hit hard by floods and landslides in recent weeks, caused mostly by high water runoff. - JP
