Jakarta to reopen gems market in May

JAKARTA: City-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya will officially open the new Rawa Bening gems and jewelry market in East Jakarta on May 5, an official says.

Governor Fauzi Bowo is scheduled to lead the opening ceremony, PD Pasar Jaya Nur Havidz told The Jakarta Post recently.

The market, claimed to be the biggest gems market in Asia, has changed its name to Jakarta Gems Center.

Visitors to the market come other countries, including China and Korea, he said.

The project to refurbish the building has taken PD Pasar Jaya two years. - JP
