Fire guts Gemilang Surabaya for five hours

MAKASSAR: Fire fighters extinguished the fire that razed ship Gemilang Surabaya for five hours at Soekarno-Hatta Port, Makassar, on Monday.

Sukardi, head of the port administration office, said the fire might have occurred from the engine room, where two crew members were feared to be trapped inside.

One hundred fire squad personnel were called from PT Pelabuhan Indonesia, the Navy base, marine police unit, PT Pertamina and the Search and Rescue team. Ship captain Willy Takarendehang said the fire had gutted the ship including document files belonging to the crew. - JP
