Since the reform era, Indonesia has been running a democracy that more people can actively participate in to express their political aspirations freely and bravely.
Whoever and wherever they are may go for the leadership election either in local or national level. Of course, singer Julia Perez (Jupe), who is know with her sexy appearance, also has the same right in this democracy era to be elected as a leader.
But she and other candidates have to follow procedure. In fact, Jupe has gained support from a number of political parties to go for election as a candidate of deputy regent in Pacitan, East Java.
Many of political parties do not have any prominent members to be nominated as regional and national leaders. Therefore, they find figures, who are well-known by the general public. Their choices go to celebrities — singers, actresses, etc.
It is nothing wrong with the wish the bid of celebrities to become candidate of regional leaders. But in the case of Jupe, we have to question her capability and experience. Political parties must educate the people by teaching them how to use their political rights professionally, especially when choosing their leaders.
To become the leader of a nation is not easy. One should at least have high morals and excellent manners, characters of leadership, knowledge and political skills. Political parties have a lot of homework to do before they realize the requirements of leaders.
