The Finance Ministry plans to issue a regulation that will allow it to examine the financial reports of officials to help prevent corruption, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Tuesday.

The regulation is based on a 1986 Presidential Decree, which states that ministers have the authority to examine officials' financial reports in comparison to their tax returns, Mulyani told reporters.

"We will use this legal base for officials at the Finance Ministry," she said after the signing of a Integrity Pact by top ministry officials to pledge their commitment to the government.

Mulyani added that ministry officials, particularly tax officials, have voluntarily agreed to send letters to the finance minister, allowing her to examine their financial reports.

She also said the Inspectorate General has evaluated areas considered prone to corruption to prevent future incidents. "We want officials to perform their jobs well, but we can still work to prevent violations," she said.

Mulyani said she will also evaluate the recruitment system of tax judges and staff. "We've asked the general affairs division to put camera in every corner of the Tax Tribunal... We have also asked to replace all security there to renew discipline in guest reception," she said.
