The upcoming revision of the 2008 law on political party has to mandate political parties to provide 30 percent quota for women in the legislature's top-ranking posts, a woman legislator said.
A lawmaker from the National Awakening Party (PKB), Ida Fauziah, said Thursday that currently political parties did not encourage women empowerment by not giving them chances to sit in the top posts of the legislature' leadership.
"The process to pass the plan is very difficult because the seats are very limited but we keep trying," she said.
She said that currently the House of Representatives has many qualified female legislators but less chance to hold the top-ranking posts.
The current Political Party Law stipulates that political parties have to have 30 percent quota for women in their national and regional boards to run for elections. (rdf)
