Various events featuring students' creativity during a car free day on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. M.H. Thamrin in Central Jakarta will mark the National Education Day on Sunday.

Marching bands, traditional martial art performance, Betawi culinary and an exhibition of various achievements of Jakarta students in the national and international competitions will highlight the event. A number of Ondel Ondel (giant effigies) will enliven the celebration around the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle.

“The schools will showcase their own characteristics,” Jakarta Education Agency head Taufik Yudi said on Wednesday.

He said approximately 1,200 schools ranging from kindergartens to universities would be represented during the one-day program.

“This year, we highlight Betawi culture as we want to precede the commemoration of our city anniversary in June,” he said.

He added the big number of booths featuring Betawi culture and coconut flower were expected to break two records in the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI).
