South Jakarta Mayor Syahrul Effendi said Wednesday that the municipal's public order agency would delay conducting its activities following last week's clash involving agency officers in Koja, North Jakarta which claimed three lives and injured 128 others.
“We know when is the right time [to start again]. For the time being, we will not do our [routine tasks,” he told a agency officer roll call at the municipality office, as quoted by kompas.com.
Syahrul said he could not tell how long the suspension would last.
“I will do a thorough evaluation, earning back the trust and of course boost up my subordinates' morale,” he said.
Public Order Agency officers have said that they will resume their daily activities on Wednesday, almost a week after a deadly clash in Koja, according to Jakarta administration spokesman Cucu Ahmad Kurnia on Tuesday.
He said the public order officers had temporarily ceased their daily monitoring of the streets as many of them were still traumatized by the bloody clash, which killed three of their colleagues.
Cucu said each head of public order sub-agency in every municipality would lead the operation of their respective force now that the agency chief, Harianto Badjoeri, has been suspended.
