Jakarta Police launch Twitter service

JAKARTA: The City Police's Traffic Management Center (TMC) on Sunday launched a microblogging site hosted by Twitter, as a means to share information and to keep the public up to date about traffic conditions in the capital.
At the official launch of the service, near the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said he expected city residents to benefit from the new facility in dealing with day-to-day traffic congestion.

Also on Sunday, TMC organized a campaign to raise awareness of the importance of traffic safety, collecting 1,000 signatures from passers by on several banners erected next to the traffic circle.
All of the activities coincided a Car Free Day event on Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Thamrin. - JP
