Almost 2,300 students or 3.5 percent of the 63,946 students in Lampung failed the national exam this year, the local education agency said Monday.

Lampung Education Agency chief Johnson Napitupulu said this was an improvement over the number students that did not pass in 2009.

“This year, 96.41 percent of students passed, up from 94.43 percent last year," Johnson said as quoted by kompas.com.

He added that students who had not passed would be allowed to repeat the national exams between May 10 and 14.
