Boediono, Mulyani questioning at KPK office, lawmaker insists

An Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission to treat Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani as equal to other citizens.

Trimedya Panjaitan said the planned questioning of the two officials should take place at the KPK office.

“The KPK has to act firmly by questioning Pak Boediono and Ibu Sri Mulyani at its office without having to dishonor state officials,” Trimedya told a hearing with KPK leaders at the House of Representatives.

He recalled a number of former state officials who turned up for questioning at the KPK office in South Jakarta either as witnesses or suspects.

The KPK, he added, would only demonstrate its inferiority to the government officials if it approved any requests to conduct the questioning at the offices of Boediono or Mulyani.

“KPK investigators will psychologically feel more comfortable if the questioning takes place at their own office.”

The KPK has yet to decide the time and place for the questioning of Boediono and Mulyani in connection with the Bank Century bailout.
