The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has set an April 29 date for the questioning of Vice President Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati at their respective offices.
KPK deputy chairman for prevention Mohamamd Jasin said on the sidelines of a hearing at the House of Representatives on Wednesday that KPK investigators would go to the vice presidential office and the Finance Ministry for the much-anticipated questioning.
“Hopefully, [the questioning will take place] tomorrow morning,” Jasin said.
When asked why the KPK had not summoned former Bank Indonesia governor Boediono and Mulyani to their office for questioning, Jasin said the KPK had followed standard operating procedure.
“According to a letter from the vice presidential secretary, the vice president is busy, while Ibu Sri Mulyani has just arrived from the United States,” Jasin said.
He added the KPK quizzed then social services minister Bachtiar Chamsyah at his office. “The most important thing is we obtain the information, data and substance that we need. Be flexible. We don’t want the persons we question to crack under pressure,” Jasin said.
The House holds Boediono and Mulyani responsible for the Bank Century bailout in November 2008, which increased tenfold to Rp 6.76 trillion from its original estimate, and which it says was flawed.
