A flash flood hit a number of villages in Kasiman district, Bojonegoro, East Java, destroying five houses and severely damaging at least a hundred others.

“We are still collecting data, we have yet to receive any reports of casualties,” Bojonegoro regency administration spokesman Jhony Nurhariyanto told Antara news agency Wednesday.

The flood was caused by a river overflowing following heavy rain in the area Tuesday night.

Flood water has inundated around 1,600 houses in five villages, affecting around 6,000 people.

Jhony said the local disaster management agency together with local village administrations had been working to evacuate victims and distribute food.
