The government will start to building a 23-megawatt power plant next year in a bid to make the best use of coalbed methane resources.
Indonesia has been known for its high potential in the coalbed methane in the world with almost 460 trillion cubic feet.
“Central and South Sumatra as well as Kalimantan are rich areas with the coalbed methane,” president director and CEO of oil and gas company VICO Indonesia Craig Stewart said Wednesday in Jakarta as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Director General of Oil and Gas Evita Herawati said that the government would start to mine the coalbed methane in Pisang Island, Sangatha I, Barito Banjar I, Tanjung Enim and Sekayu in both Sumatra and Kalimantan.
The government has planned to form a road map to continuously develop the coalbed methane-based power plants.
