One man was killed and a dozen others were injured in a brawl between two rival labor union members in the Riau regency of Rokan Hilir, ahead of International Labor Day celebrations on May 1.
Antara quoted a local resident, Bambang, who said the clash Friday revolved around dual leadership in the local branch of the All Indonesian Workers Union (SPSI).
He said the incident broke out after members of the labor union under Iwan erected a sign board of the organization on Jl. Sudirman, just near the office of the rival labor group led by Fuad.
Both groups were armed with machetes and other sharp weapons during the fight.
The casualty was identified as Jhon Robert Simatupang, 38.
Bambang said the wounded labor union activists were admitted to a local hospital, some in critical condition.
