Some 500 workers of the Koja container terminal, North Jakarta, continued to stage a protest on Sunday, demanding a permanent worker status.
The protesters, which began the demonstration on Saturday, called on state-owned seaport operator PT Pelindo II to change the status of Koja container terminal from a joint operation to a legal business entity.
"We demand the change because our job status is not clear. When the joint operation contract ends, we don't know where to go," Ainur Rofiq, Koja container terminal workers union deputy chairman, said as quoted by kompas.com
Rofiq added the Koja container terminal joint operation was formed by Pelindo II and Hongkong-based firm Hutchison in 1997 and it will end in 2018.
