Thieves break into health agency, steal millions

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Health Agency incurred a loss of tens of millions after a group of thieves broke into one of its buildings and made off with money kept there.

The thieves took open four cases containing a total of Rp 42.1 million. Another case was damaged but the Rp 18 million inside was left untouched because the thieves were unable to open it.

Yogyakarta Police chief Syaiful Anwar said the theft took place early Saturday and that there were probably four thieves.

The health office was previously robbed in 1999 when thieves made off with five computers.

Police took the damaged case as evidence for further investi-gation.

Health agency head Bondan Agus Suryanto said he was considering stepping up security. - JP
