The city’s social services agency is planning to provide support to three families in Duren Sawit district in East Jakarta, whose houses were struck by a meteorite last week.

Agency head Budihardjo said Tuesday the agency had allocated Rp 10 million (US$1,110) for each family in the forms of building materials.

He said the agency had prepared for the humanitarian assistance, but it needed confirmation from the authorized institution about the cause of the accident, which caused severe damages on the houses. “The assistance must wait for the research team’s conclusion that the accident was a natural disaster,” Budihardjo told kompas.com.

East Java mayor Murdhani added that the municipal administration would allocate Rp 5 million for each of the families, also in the forms of building materials. The assistance will be taken from the alms and charity funds. “We hope to hand in the assistance next week,” he said.
