Papua Police continue hunt for escaped convicts, detainees

The search for 18 inmates, who escaped from Abepura Penitentiary, Papua, on Monday, is continuing as Jayapura and Abepura Police began to investigate the incident Tuesday morning.

Jayapura Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Iman Setiawan told Antara news agency Tuesday that the police were targeting a number of locations where the inmate may have gone after their escape.

Investigators were also examining the scene of the escape, he said.

The inmates escaped late Monday afternoon after breaking into a surveillance post and jumping over the penitentiary fence.
