AKARTA: Australian Ambassador Bill Farmer, expressed his condolenceson the death of Hadi Soesastro, a co-founder of the Centre forStrategic and International Studies.
Hadi died Tuesday, 10 days after being admitted to Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta. He was 65 years old.
“With the passing of Dr. Hadi Soesastro, Indonesia has lost one of its most eminent thinkers and a great friend to Australia,” Farmer said in a press release made available on Wednesday.
“The Australian government extends its sympathies to Indonesia and to Dr. Soesastro’s wife, Janti Solihin and their two sons,” he said.
The release noted that Hadi was a regular visitor to Australia and had been awarded an honorary doctorate by the Australian National University just last year for his outstanding contribution to thinking and policy in the fields of international economics, economic reform in Indonesia and international economic relations, particularly with Australia and the East Asia region.
“Australia is grateful for Dr. Soesastro’s extensive contribution to Australia-Indonesia relations, regional integration and, of course, to Indonesia’s remarkable transition to a vibrant democracy and the resumption of its natural role as a regional leader,” Farmer said. — JP
