Vice President Boediono said on Sunday that his government also belongs to Muslims and works for Muslims, who are parts of Indonesia as a nation.
When closing the Muslims Congress on Sunday, Boediono said that his government was put in place through elections by the people, the majority of whom are Muslims.
"This government belongs to Muslims because the government and the legislatives are elected by the majority of the people, the Muslims," Boediono was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.
He added that his government serves the people, the majority of whom are Muslims, through various programs, including through education, healthcare and others.
He said his government looks for better partnership with Muslims to implement those various government programs.
The government, he went on, sees the development of religious values as important. "It is our common duty to create a society with high morality."
Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah chairman Din Syamsuddin, who initiated the Muslim Congress, said Muslims still do not see the government as meeting their needs.
"The strength of Muslims' economy has been sidelined because they could not compete well. Because of this capitalistic system, the government opens the door too wide for all," he said.
