Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) lawmaker Eva Kusuma Sundari has asked Washington DC-bound Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati to explain her statements which the House of Representative member says will explain the truth behind the Bank Century saga.

Eva, who was part of the House inquiry into the Bank Century bailout, said on Monday she noticed Mulyani had made three statements implying that she was not responsible for the controversial bailout, which tenfolded to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million) from its original estimate.

“Firstly, she told the House inquiry committee that she was responsible only authorizing Rp 639 billion in bailout fund. Secondly, she said she did not want to take the responsibility alone. And lastly, she told Finance Ministry staff a few days ago that a leader should not sacrifice subordinates,” Eva said.

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has approved Mulyani’s resignation, which will allow her to take the World Bank managing director post. She is scheduled to start her term on June 1.

“Bu Sri has to explain her indicative statements. She should not serve as a bumper to cover up a vice. Before she leaves, she has to tell the truth,” Eva said as quoted by kompas.com.

Eva said he heard rumors about Mulyani’s move to the World Bank a few months ago, but did not take it seriously. “We don’t care about her departure, but her responsibility,” said Eva.
