Former National Police chief Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji was declared a suspect because he allegedly received Rp 500 million (US$545,000) of bribes from suspected case broker Sjahril Djohan, according to one of Susno's lawyers.
Lawyer Henry Yosodiningrat told Kompas.com that police investigators told him that Susno received Rp 500 bribes from Sjahril Djohan over a corruption case of an Arowana fish breeding project in Riau.
Henry said that the Rp 500 bribe that Susno allegedly took was based on Sjahril's testimony as well as testimonies from two other witnesses, Haposan Hutagalung and police officer Adj. Sr. Comr. Syamsul Rizal.
"While Pak Susno was being questioned, he was presented with an arrest warrant," Hendry said.
Another Susno's lawyer, M Assegaf, said that his client was trapped by the police.
"Pak Susno was summoned as a witness and he was cooperative by answering 34 questions, and he did not make it difficult for the investigators and answered all questions. But the questioning was closed with the arrest warrant," Assegaf said.
Susno, who lost his chief detective post after a presidential team uncovered a plot to frame two Corruption Eradication Commission leaders last November, has come under media spotlight after he struck back by unveiling a case brokering practice involving a tax official, police officers and state prosecutors.
A suspect in the case said Susno was part of the case brokering mafia himself.
