The percentage of vocational school students who pass the national exams has declined to 11 percent from 6 percent last year, an official said.
Joko Sutrisno, Director of Technical and Vocational Education, said on Tuesday that 102,000 out of 912,000 participants of the national exams this year failed and had to take remedial tests.
"The causes vary, ranging from the rise in the difficulty level of the materials to a change to the schedule," he said.
This year's national exams were held in March, while last year they were held in April.
The Ministry revealed that the national success rate for students from high schools and Islamic schools who participated in the national exams this year dropped from last year's 95.05 percent to 89.88 percent.
