China has accepted Indonesia’s request to conduct joint research in order to boost the latter’s development in the fishery and maritime sectors.
Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister Fadel Muhammad on Monday received China’s ambassador to Indonesia Zhang Qiyue to further discuss on the upcoming research cooperation, according to a press release sent to The Jakarta Post.
Indonesia started its strategic partnership with China in 2005. In the field of maritime affairs, both countries have agreed to work together in developing human resources, sustainable management, production capacity and infrastructure, and fighting illegal fishing.
In terms of trade, Indonesia had exported almost 150,000 tons of various fishery products, including shrimp and tuna fish, totaling US$97 million to China. Meanwhile, China had exported 89,000 tons of fish flour and various fresh fish to Indonesia in the same year.
