JAKARTA: Suspended head of Jakarta’s Public Order Agency Harianto
Badjoeri will start a new job today as a human resources director at
city-owned construction company PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol.
City secretary Muhayat said on Sunday that Harianto’s position would be filled by former North Jakarta mayor Effendi Anas, who is currently one of Muhayat’s assistants.
Harianto was suspended after hundreds of his officers clashed in a
bloody riot at a memorial complex in Tanjung Priok with a gang of
people claiming to be heirs of revered Muslim figure known as Mbah
Priuk, whose grave is situated in the complex.
Three public order officers died in the effort to evict squatters from
the area and more than 200 people were injured, including 17 teenagers.
The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) has concluded that
serious violations against children’s human rights also occurred in the
clash. — JP
