A Russian tourist was found dead on the east coast of Serangan Island, an island off the southeast coast of Bali, on Tuesday.
South Denpasar police station chief Adj. Comr. Gede Ganefo said the female tourist, identified as Angelina Marchenco, 24, might have drowned while surfing.
Ganefo said another surfer, David Rowell, discovered the woman’s body floating in Serangan waters at about 8 a.m. Jakarta time. A surfboard was tied to her leg.
In its postmortem report, the Sanglah Hospital in Denpasar said the woman had died of suffocation due to being in the water for a long time.
“We found no traces of any act of violence; therefore, we believe it was purely an accident. However, we will investigate the case,” Ganefo said.
