The House of Representatives' monitoring team on the Bank Century bailout case met with the National Police's top officers today.
The meeting is being led by one of the House deputy speakers, Golkar Party's Priyo Budi Santoso, and National Police chief Gen. Bambang Hendarso Danuri is in attendance along with National Police Detective chief Comr. Gen. Ito Sumardi.
Prior to the meeting, Ito said the police would deliver its latest report on the investigation into banking crime and money laundering surrounding the Bank Century fiasco.
When asked whether the police would question then Bank Indonesia governor (now Vice President) Boediono, Ito said the police would not interfere in the investigation of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
"The KPK has grilled Pak Boediono. It's not necessary for us to question same person for the same problem," Ito said.
The team aims to ask the police about the progress of their investigation into the case that could allegedly implicate Boediono and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
In November 2008, the bailout, that increased tenfold from its original estimate to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million), was authorized by Mulyani and Boediono, as the then Bank Indonesia governor.
