One person has been killed, while two other are missing following an explosion on an Indonesian Navy patrol boat on the waters of Lingai, 500 kilometers off the west coast of Batam, Riau Islands, on Thursday.
The boat was carrying 25 members of Anambas Island Regency’s Family Empowerment and Welfare Movement (PKK) on their way to Jemaja Island when it blew up, said Natuna Police chief detective Adj. Comr. Ronald Simanjutak.
Ronald added the woman killed had been identified as Mauli Yulianti, the wife of acting Anambas Governor Yusrizal. Nine of 22 survivors were sent to a hospital in Tanjung Pinang.
Ronal said his team is investigating the cause of the accident. “We’re still collecting evidence,” he added.
