JAKARTA: City Police are currently hunting leaders of a group of students that allegedly attacked three police officers on a South Jakarta thoroughfare on Tuesday evening.

"We have so far questioned two witnesses *in the case* and are now chasing down the coordinators of the student group," Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Boy Rafli Amar told reporters Wednesday.

Three police officers, Brig. Anwar, Brig. Handoyo and Brig. Sugeng Wibawa, were coordinating traffic on Jl. Rasuna Said when four minibuses carrying members of the Indonesian Student Union passed the police on the TransJakarta busway lane.

Most of the students were traveling on the buses' roofs.

The officers stopped the buses, ordering their drivers out of the lane and asking the students to get down from the buses' roof. The students, who were allegedly incensed, then attacked the officers.

Sugeng was reportedly bruised all over his body while his two colleagues sustained minor injuries. - JP
