The Golkar Party says that the Democratic Party achieved a significant breakthrough by choosing Anas Urbaningrum as the new chairman.
"Hopefully, Anas' appointment will create a new aura in our political communication as a coalition because he is part of the young generation," Golkar faction chairman Setya Novanto told reporters at his office in Senayan, South Jakarta on Monday.
Anas was appointed Democratic Party chairman on Sunday following his victory in a grueling two-round voting.
Anas eliminated his senior, former Democratic Party secretary general Marzuki Alie, in the final round of voting.
The first round of voting featured a surprising elimination of heavy favorite Andi Mallarangeng.
