JAKARTA: The Thousand Island regency will propose to the City Council to build more reverse osmosis facilities to convert sea water into fresh water to cater for the growing need for clean water in inhabited islands in the regency.
"We will file the proposal immediately. Hopefully, we can start building the facilities next year," Thousand Islands Regent Burhanuddin was quoted as saying by news portal tempointeraktif.com.
He did not specify an exact date.
Some islands, including Kelapa, Pramuka, Pari, Panggang and Untung Jawa, he said, already had the facilities. "But we need more *facilities* because of rising demand for fresh water, including for tourism." - JP
