Hundreds take up arms as tension arises in Papua regency

Hundreds of people wielded bows and arrows in at a field in Timika, Mimika regency, Papua, on early Tuesday ready to attack another group following an arson incident the night before.

The armed people were of Paniai group were about to attack the rival group Kei.

Police personnel had been deployed to prevent clash.

The armed group was finally dispersed after Paniai chief Piet Nawipa told the people to calm down and go home.
