Prosecutors at the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday sought a life sentence for the defendant in the murder of Japanese tourist Hiromi Shimada.
The prosecutors asked the panel of judges to hand down the life sentence for Mawardi for murder, sexual harassment and violent theft of the 41-year-old woman.
“The defendant intentionally murdered the victim and committed theft with violence and threats,” prosecutor Ni Made Citra Maya Sari told presiding judge I Gusti Bagus Komang Wijaya Adhi.
The defendant was proven to having committed murder, as well as violent theft and rape, she said during the session presided over by judge Dewa Putu Wenten.
Prosecutors said the defendant had also committed violent sexual harassment.
