The House of Representatives monitoring team on the Bank Century bailout case says that the country’s law enforcement institutions have been too slow in investigating the case.
“We see and feel that the law enforcers are not at the level that we want them to be. There is progress, but it is still not enough by the House’s standard,” the team's interim chairman, Priyo Budi Santoso from the Golkar Party, told reporters after a meeting with the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) at the House in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“It seems that the pace we want in investigating the case is at 120 kilometers per hour, while the law enforcers are only moving at 70 kilometers per hour,” he added.
Priyo said that the team would summon and meet with representatives of all three law enforcement institutions to ensure they were properly coordinated with one another.
In March, the House deemed the bailout, which rose to ten times its original estimate to Rp 6.76 trillion (US$716 million), flawed and stated the KPK, the National Police and the AGO should take legal measures against those responsible.
