Former National Police chief detective Comr. Gen. Susno Duadji has been officially under protection by the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) but the police seem to be reluctant to let him out of their sight 24 hours a day.
Susno signed Wednesday the term of conditions presented by the LPSK to be included in its protection program, a LPSK commissioner Lili Pintauli Siregar said Wednesday.
“We, accompanied by a number of Pak Susno’s lawyers, met him at the police detention center at Mobile Brigade headquarters in Kelapa Dua, Depok, West Java.
“Pak Susno has agreed and signed the [term of conditions] letter. As of today, he is under our protection,” Lili told The Jakarta Post.
According to the 2006 Witness and Victim Protection Law, Susno as a witness, is obliged to obey several conditions:
First, Susno must present all information he has before the court. Second, Susno must obey the LPSK’s guidance in regards of his safety. Third, Susno must not communicate with any party in any way without LPSK’s permission.
“Starting from tomorrow, LPSK’s commissioners would accompany Pak Susno every time he is quizzed as a witness,” Lili said, adding that Susno’s family members could be also included in the protection program if requested.
Lili said that Susno was also supposed to be located in a safe house provided by the LPSK, but it could not be implemented at the moment.
“We have prepared a safe house for him but we need to coordinate with the police. Because Pak Susno is also a suspect, we know that the police also have the authority to detain him.
“We will talk with the police within this week,” she explained.
