President names sole candidate for BI governor post

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will propose one candidate for the vacant Bank Indonesia governor post to the House of Representatives next week, State Secretary Sudi Silalahi said Friday.

Sudi, however, refused to name the sole candidate. "I couldn't mention the name. Moreover, the candidate is only one," he said before a final press briefing by the President in connection with the outcome of the Climate and Forest Conference in Oslo.

The central bank governor post has been left vacant for more than one year following the resignation of Boediono, who quit in May 2009 to contest the presidential election as the running mate of Yudhoyono.

BI senior deputy governor Darmin Nasution has been serving as the acting governor following his election in July last year. He is also touted as the strongest candidate for the central bank’s top post.
