Census is unlikely to finish Monday

JAKARTA: Jakarta chapter of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS Jakarta) said that it could not meet the May 31 census deadline due to difficulties it faced on the field, an official said Sunday.

"Officially, *the census* should be completed Monday. However, we can't wrap it up since we have yet to complete all data," the chapter chairman Agus Suherman was quoted by tempointeraktif.com as saying.

Agus excused his officers' inability to collect the data saying many residents were uncooperative with some declining to meet duty officers.

As of Sunday, the agency reported that it had registered 94 percent of the population.

The BPS said Sunday it would extend the deadline to June 15. - JP
