A forum of Muslim clerics in Java and Madura has declared that any act of insult against President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono would be haram (forbidden under Islamic law).
Cleric Achmad Fauzi said during the event Thursday that most protesters had gone beyond limits and violated religious and social etiquette during rallies.
Fauzi cited an example of a group of protesters who recently displayed a buffalo named after the President during a demonstration. “It is considered an insult,” he added.
The forum also announced that it was haram for a couple to mix their blood together and then insert it inside a wedding ring, as was done by businessman Ardi Bakrie and his wife, actress Nia Ramadhani.
