800 suspects arrested for anti-street crimes

The Jakarta Police has arrested 808 suspects during five months of operation to crack down on street crimes across the city.

"Following an investigation, we have decided to detain only 311 suspects and release the remaining 497 suspects," Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Wahyono told a press conference.

The operation, conducted between January and May, found thuggery as the most frequent street crimes with 107 cases, followed by violent theft with 78 cases, and alcohol abuse with 64 cases.

During the operation, the police also confiscated four firearms and 94 sharp objects from the suspects.
