Gayus testimony is not politicking: House speaker

A- A A+

House of Representatives Speaker Marzuki Alie from the Democratic Party says that former tax official Gayus Tambunan's testimony about tax evasion allegedly conducted by numerous companies affiliated to Golkar Party chairman Aburizal Bakrie must not be perceived as a politicking.

"Let's not say that everything is politicking. If Gayus speaks, then his statement has to be followed up," Marzuki told reporters at the House in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Marzuki added that Gayus' testimony alone needed to be backed up with additional evidence to provide more validity.

Previously, one of the House deputy speakers, Priyo Budi Santoso from Golkar, said that he expected there would be no politicking on his boss as an implication of Gayus' testimony.

Gayus testified recently that he had received funds from several of Aburizal's companies to facilitate them paying less tax.
