JAKARTA: The National Police hosted a meeting with the Attorney General's Office and the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to discuss an investigation into the 2008 Bank Century bailout, which legislators say was unjustified and may have involved corruption.

"We are seeking common ground so we will be able to present the same views in an upcoming hearing with the House of Representatives," deputy Attorney General M. Amari said.

The House team monitoring the legal proceedings of the Bank Century case summoned leaders of the three institutions to explain why the probe had made little progress.

Amari said the problem was very complex and that investigators had been collecting information to begin prosecution.

The investigation began after the House found indications that the US$6.76 trillion Century bailout may have been graft-ridden and demanded a criminal investigation.

High-profile figures targeted by legislators include former finance minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Vice President Boediono, who approved the bailout. -JP
